What does the CLR do?

Isn't it more or less a universal translator? It will allow you to develop code in one language and integrate it with code written in another.

Common Language Runtime helps you manage code and it makes the development process faster and easier. Managed code is code that you write that targets the CLR. The biggest benefit is that the CLR can automatically convert from one .Net language to another. In summary, the CLR makes things much easier to work with.

It also manages memory. It automatically releases objects from memory when they are no longer being used. The data the CLR is handling is referred to as managed data. This enhances efficiency and performance.
